Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, is one of the most ancient and powerful styles of yoga. It supports us to become physically and mentally strong by creating a strong nervous system and healthy glandular and immune system as prerequisites to living a life full of radiance and abundance.

It is a technology and a science for all aspects of human living. Based on the realisation that our true strength comes from within, it deepens and expands our awareness on all levels of our being so that we may awaken our full potential and grace. It is a transformational practice using dynamic posture, breath, mantra, sound, meditation and deep relaxation.

A class leaves you with an overwhelming sense that you have nurtured your whole being and experienced something special. You do not need to be in perfect physical condition or share any particular belief system.

Kundalini yoga is for everyone.

"You are not a human being having a spiritual experience; you are a spiritual being having a human experience." - Yogi Bhajan

What is Meditation?
Just as we get up in the morning and take a shower to wash and cleanse our bodies we meditate to refresh and cleanse our mind.
Our minds release one thousand thoughts in a wink of an eye, some of these thoughts get lost in the unconscious and some get stuck into the subconscious and affect the conscious mind.
These thoughts become feelings, emotions, desires, fantasies or multi-realities.
Instead of mastering our mind, often our mind rules us.
Meditation allows your mind to release negative thoughts from the subconscious, freeing you from unhelpful patterns. This results in clarity and sharpness of mind, enabling you to function more effectively on all levels.

Is Chanting Necessary?
When you chant you hit he tongue against the roof of the mouth, stimulating the 84
meridian points located on the palate. These are connected to the hypothalamus and
pituitary gland in the brain. The hypothalamus controls many body processes including
temperature, thyroid function, hunger and thirst response and sleep. The pituitary gland
is known as the master gland and regulates mood and emotional behaviours.
Therefore chanting can really change the way you feel.

"The totality of all yogas is Kundalini Yoga,
the yoga of awareness, the yoga of consciousness" - Yogi Bhajan

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light strong body, and a calm mind.

To perform asana correctly in Ashtangayoga, one must incorporate the use of vinyasa and tristhana.

Vinyasa means breathing and movement system. For each movement, there is one breath and all asanas are assigned a certain number of vinyasas, the purpose of which is for internal cleansing. Synchronizing breathing and movement in the asanas heats the blood, cleaning and thinning it so that it may circulate more freely. Improved blood circulation relieves joint pain and removes toxins and disease from the internal organs. The sweat generated from the heat of vinyasa then carries the impurities out of the body.

Tristhana refers to the union of "three places of attention or action: posture, breathing system and looking place”. These three are very important for yoga practice, and cover three levels of purification: the body, nervous system and mind. They are always performed in conjunction with each other.

The benefits of Yoga are many: Yoga attunes the body, improves posture, corrects breathing patterns, helps reduce stress, brings deep relaxation, and if you wish, enhances spiritual growth. Regular practice encourages the body to become healthier, fitter, leaner, and stronger, whilst the mind experiences clarity, focus, and tranquility.

“The science of yoga is useful to the entire human community, and yields happiness both here and hereafter.”
